Background and Objectives

Coan, Payton & Payne is a leading business firm in Ft. Collins, Colorado, with an expanding practice along Colorado’s Front Range.  The firm wanted to reassess sustainability, with a particular focus on partnership structure and compensation.

The task was to review and advise on the firm’s existing Strategic Plan and help the firm execute its strategy into the firm’s partner compensation system.

Approach and Implementation

EvolveLaw worked with the Managing Partner to understand the firm’s status and market position.  We then examined the firm’s metrics and partnership structure.  With that background, we analyzed the firm’s draft strategic plan and its multi-tiered partner compensation system.  We advised the firm on its strategic plan, helping to tighten, focus, and add supporting structure where needed.  Critically, we advised on how to tailor the firm’s partnership compensation to incentivize goal-driven behavior and sustainability.

Deliverables included suggested revisions to the firm’s strategic plan, revisions to the firm’s partner compensation system, and advice on execution.

Impact

The firm is moving forward with better-defined strategy, and, critically, with alignment into partner compensation, which is perhaps the key driver of law firm culture and sustainability.
